Summer Band is a great experience for Middle School musicians. The camp runs for 15 days in June for students looking to enhance their playing abilities. There are two different programs that run during the camp: Beginning Band for new musicians and Concert Bands for returning musicians.
Beginning Band:
We are very fortunate to offer students with three weeks worth of individualized instruction focused on the various instruments of the band. Students will be guided through the process caring for, assembling and playing their instrument. Students will be placed into classes based upon the instrument they choose. By the end of the summer session, students will be able to successfully read music and play their instrument. You do not need any experience on an instrument to join this part of the camp.
Concert Band:
The Concert Band class is designed for 2nd and 3rd year musicians to further their musicianship skills in an ensemble setting. Students will be placed into an ensemble based up on their level of skill and play traditional band music. Students will rehearse with the ensemble each day and have experiences from several conductors throughout the camp. At the end of the camp, it is traditional to have a concert where the students will perform some of the pieces they have been working on.
The Benefits of Camp:
Band is a social event. Summer Band is a great opportunity to meet students from other elementary schools. Making friends before going to middle school helps ease the transition and what better way to accomplish this while having fun learning a new skill. Past students rave about the fun and how much they have learned from the camp.
