Frequently Asked Questions
How Much does camp cost?
The Crown Point Summer Band costs $120. This includes all instruction and a Camp T-shirt
What if I can’t attend every day of the camp?
Summer is full of family events. Is it common for students to miss a few days throughout camp for a myriad of reasons. These could be family vacations, relatives coming into town, special events, or illness. Attendance is not mandatory for every day, although the more students attend camp, the better the experience is.
Where do I get an instrument for my child?
You have two options to obtain an instrument for your child: Purchase or Rent to Own.
We highly suggest that you use Quinlan and Fabish as the company to rent instruments from. They are one of the best companies in the area and they will deliver supplies to the camp and to school once the year begins. They also have a repair program for instruments that they rent to own that can save you a lot of money during that time. You can get more information in the Instrument Rental Section.
If you choose to purchase your own instrument, please seek the advice of a Music Director or from a reputable Music Store. Instruments that are sold on Amazon may not be adequate for the success of your child. There are other avenues including Facebook Marketplace and garage sales that could be good sources for instruments. We have purchased several instruments for the program from these sources. Check with your director and they can be on the lookout for these instruments.
What if I already own / have an instrument?
If you already own or have an instrument you plan on using for band… Great! You will need to purchase a book that we use in class. (Habits of a Successful Beginning Band Student) for your instrument. You can also purchase supplies (Book, Reeds, Sticks) for your instrument through Quinlan and Fabish
Can I play an instrument with braces?
Braces are a common thing for middle school aged students. While there may be some initial discomfort, you can play any instrument with braces! (even Brass Instruments!) Talk with your director to see what can be done for your instrument. Our only request is that you don’t schedule getting braces right before a performance due to the temporary discomfort time.
